Bab Fakk Al-Asad, known in English as the Lion's Mouth, is a dramatic rock formation at the northern tip of Musandam Governorate, where the Sea of Oman meets the Strait of Hormuz. Two great rock masses form what looks like an open lion's jaw, shaped over time by the powerful currents at this strategic passage. Sailors and merchants, including navigators such as Ibn Battuta and Ahmad ibn Majid, historically used the passage as shelter from storms, and it remains one of Musandam's most striking landmarks.
