The highest peak in Musandam at 2,087 metres, its name translates as the Mountain of Women. The winding road climbs through the bare Hajar rock to within 400 metres of the summit, which is closed off around a radar station. Along the way the rock is studded with fossils, among them trilobites and shells left behind by an ancient sea.
