Built by the Ya'rubi dynasty around four hundred years ago, this fort east of Liwa town served as a stronghold and the residence of the local wali. It has a high wall with five towers, corner turrets, and a central keep, with a main gate known locally as Al Sabah. Unusually for an Omani fort, it stands very close to the sea. It was restored between 2000 and 2003.
