Khareef is Dhofar's monsoon season, conventionally dated June 21 to September 21. Salalah and the surrounding hills become cooler, misty and green, but the weather does not switch on or off on a fixed date.

Waterfalls depend on rainfall. Choose your dates around the experience you want, then check the forecast and local conditions before heading into the hills.

For a first family visit, consider three sightseeing days based in Salalah, with arrival and departure time added separately. Group city, eastern and western stops on different days instead of crossing the region repeatedly.

A simple three-day plan

A suggested outline, not a booked itinerary. Change the order for weather, opening hours and your family's pace.

Day 1
Salalah and its heritage
Keep the first day close to your accommodation. Consider Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the Land of Frankincense Museum, then leave time for a meal and rest. Confirm visiting hours and tickets before setting out.
Day 2
Wadi Darbat and the eastern side
Make Wadi Darbat your main stop rather than squeezing several distant waterfalls into one day. Choose a short walk or picnic only where access and conditions allow; leave time for breaks and the return journey.
Day 3
Mughsail and the western coast
Visit Mughsail for coastal scenery from permitted viewing areas. Treat this as a sightseeing stop, not a swimming plan. If visibility or sea conditions are poor, skip exposed viewpoints and keep the day in Salalah.

Before you set out

Budget for accommodation, transport, food and entry tickets. If flying, arrange airport transfers or a vehicle; if driving a long distance, allow rest stops. Recheck hours, access and any booking directly with the venue. Wajd does not confirm availability for these suggested stops.
