Al Khadha lies about twenty kilometres from the centre of Wilayat Rustaq in the Wadi Bani Ghafar area, where water flows year round between palm oases shaded by ghaf, samr and sidr trees. Families from Rustaq visit almost daily to enjoy its clear pools and greenery, even though the site still has little tourism infrastructure. Its enduring natural flow makes it one of the greener escapes in Al Batinah South.

Wadi Qahfi lies in the mountains of Al Buraimi Governorate, roughly fifty kilometres from Wilayat Mahdah along a narrow winding road that leads through the village of Al Fayy. Clear, turquoise water flows through rocky pools in the wadi for most of the year, and unlike many mountain wadis in Oman, it can be reached without a 4wd vehicle or a long walk. It remains a favourite of local adventurers who discovered its beauty long before it appeared on any tourist list.

Al Naseem Park lies between Seeb and Barka, roughly 60 kilometres from central Muscat, and ranks among the oldest family parks in the area. Its grounds hold a fish pond, a lake, a waterfall, a maze and separate Arabic and Japanese style gardens, alongside a playground for children. Entry is free, and the park is at its best from November to February when its gardens are in full bloom, often coinciding with Muscat Festival activities.

Wadi Ayn lies about thirty five kilometers north of Salalah in Dhofar, reached along the quieter Aqaba road. During the khareef season it turns into a green oasis with waterfalls, natural pools, and caves spread across more than four kilometers of valley. It remains less visited than Dhofar's better known wadis such as Darbat and Ayn Khor, which makes it a quieter khareef escape.

Falaj Al Malki runs through the wilayat of Izki in Ad Dakhiliyah and is one of five Omani aflaj inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2006. It is the longest falaj in the governorate, with seventeen branches stretching across a combined length of about fifteen kilometers. It takes its name from Malik bin Fahm Al Azdi and stands as a record of how earlier generations of Omanis managed water in an arid land.

Al Zawawi Mosque stands in the Al Khuwair district of Muscat, along Sultan Qaboos Street. Omar Al Zawawi built it in 1985 in memory of his father, Abdul Mun'im Al Zawawi, and gave it to the people of Oman as a gift. The mosque is known for its golden tones, its single minaret and dome, and the Quranic verses inscribed on metal panels set into walls built from wood and marble.

Madha Museum sits in the wilayat of Madha, the Omani enclave inside the UAE in Musandam governorate, and is the first private museum in the governorate. Founder Muhammad bin Salem Al Madhani began gathering pieces from the late 1960s and opened the museum officially on the second of May 2018. The collection spans pottery, copper tools, rock inscriptions, manuscripts, coins, and weapons, with some pieces dating back to the third millennium BCE.

Dhalkut is the westernmost wilayat of Dhofar Governorate, roughly 150 kilometres from Salalah near the border with Yemen, reached by a scenic two to two and a half hour mountain drive. Here the Al Qamar mountains meet the Arabian Sea along a wide sandy shore, home to a rare baobab tree known locally as Hiroum Dheeri and to the wreckage of an aircraft partly buried on the beach. During the khareef monsoon from June to September, seasonal rains turn its hills lush and green.

Al Buraimi Oasis Plaza is a new urban destination spanning more than sixty eight thousand square metres between the historic Al Hillah and Al Khandaq forts in Al Buraimi Governorate. The project blends traditional architecture with modern touches and includes green and water features such as a miniature oasis, one hundred seventy four palm trees, fountains, and dedicated paths for walking and cycling. Officially opened in January 2026, it now serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors alike, reinforcing the governorate's cultural identity.

Al Ayjah Lighthouse stands on Ras Al Meel, a headland in the Al Ayjah quarter of Sur, overlooking the entrance to Khor Al Batah across the water from the town centre. What began as a simple defensive enclosure with openings for cannon and rifle fire was rebuilt in 1996 by order of Sultan Qaboos to mark National Day, rising into the present three floor lighthouse crowned with a dome in traditional Omani style. Three of its original cannons remain, and the site draws visitors especially at sunset for its views over the harbour and coastline of Sur.

Every Wednesday morning, women from Ibra and nearby villages gather to run one of the oldest and best known markets in Oman, held in the heart of Ibra town in North Ash Sharqiyah Governorate. Traders lay out traditional Omani clothing, frankincense and incense brought in from regions such as Dhofar, silver jewelry, palm weaving, and other handicrafts alongside plants and birds. The souq has drawn buyers and sellers from across neighboring wilayats for decades and remains a rare women run marketplace in the country.

Sayh Plateau is a cool, elevated stretch of land on the road from Khasab towards Jebel Harim and Wadi Bih in Musandam, reachable only by four wheel drive. The plateau surrounds the peninsula's highest peak and takes in Wadi Biyah, with scattered stone settlements and donkeys roaming the open land. Its altitude gives it noticeably milder temperatures than the coast, making it a popular spot for a day trip, mountain camping and stargazing far from city lights.

Khawr Filim sits within the Barr Al Hikman area of Al Wusta, one of the most important shorebird sites in the Middle East. Crab-plovers, greater flamingos and terek sandpipers gather here in large numbers, and its mangroves shelter the kalbaensis race of Collared Kingfisher along with the occasional Indian White-eye. Oman's first Grey-tailed Tattler was recorded here in 2023, and birders find the richest activity from late August to November and again from February to May.

Hawir Waterfalls cascade down from the heights near Bidah village in Wadi Bani Khaled, only about two hundred metres on foot from the car park, making them one of the wilayat's most visited natural sites. Deep, clear pools collect beneath the falls as the water continues its course toward Seeq village in the neighbouring Wilayat of Al Kamil Wal Wafi. Local newspapers describe the spot as a draw for adventure and recreational tourism in both summer and winter alike.

Fort Awlad Ya'arab stands on the beach at Al Harmul in the wilayat of Liwa, built from white clay in a style distinct from the better known Liwa Fort nearby. Its architecture, carvings and arches closely resemble those of Sohar Fort, leading historians to date it to more than four hundred years ago. The fort is understood to have once served as the seat of a local wali.

Bait Al Darwaza is a restored seventeenth century fortified house in Sifalat Ibra, in the Wilayat of Ibra, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. It was converted into a museum in 2012 and now displays hundreds of pieces from Ibra's past, including antique rifles and swords, gold and silver jewelry, horse saddles, pottery, and traditional cooking tools. The museum is open daily from 8am to 1pm and again from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, with a small entry fee and a rooftop cafe for visitors.

Khasab Souq sits near the waterfront in Khasab, the main town of Musandam Governorate, about ten minutes by car from the town center. It is a lively, hands on market where shoppers can buy fresh hamour, kingfish, shrimp, and crab alongside dates, pomegranates, khanjars, pottery, woven baskets, and spices like cumin, cardamom, and saffron. Trade is liveliest from late morning into early evening, though mornings and late afternoons bring fresher produce and thinner crowds.

Ghubrah Lake Park sits in the heart of Muscat's Al Ghubrah district, built around a calm ornamental lake with views toward the Gulf of Oman. Wide lawns, shaded walking paths, and dedicated cycling tracks make it a favorite for families and joggers alike. The park also has a children's play area, sports courts, and outdoor exercise equipment, and connects to the neighboring Al Ghubrah Beach Park.

Yenkit is a small village on Muscat's eastern coast, just off the road to Sifah, prized for a narrow rocky inlet that travelers compare to a Norwegian fjord. Two hiking routes, each under five kilometers round trip, lead along the western and eastern sides of the inlet to striking cliff top viewpoints. It sits about forty minutes from the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, though the trek is fully exposed to the sun and the rocky shoreline is not suited for swimming.

Fahal Island rises about four kilometers off Muscat's Qurm beach, its limestone cliffs formed from seabed sediment some 35 to 55 million years ago and later pushed above the waves. The waters around it hold colorful coral reefs and rich marine life, making it one of Muscat's best known diving and snorkeling spots, and it is nicknamed Shark Island for the reef sharks often seen in its shallows. Because the island is a protected natural reserve, visits and dives require prior authorization from the relevant authorities.

Souq Al Hafah is the oldest market in all of Dhofar, known historically as Souq Al Harjaa, and sits about three kilometres from central Salalah among coconut palms along the coast. The famed traveller Ibn Battuta is said to have visited, along with the geographer Ibn Al Mujawir, and a document bearing Sultan Taimur's own seal from 1342 AH still speaks to its long trading history. Today it remains the place to shop for Omani frankincense, dairy products, traditional textiles, heritage clothing and gold and silver ornaments.

Rising about ninety eight metres straight out of the Arabian Sea near Duqm, Hamar Rock is a limestone column that fishermen have long used as a landmark to judge their distance from shore. Six kilometres from Nafoun Beach in Al Wusta, its cliffs host migratory birds of many kinds and the surrounding waters draw humpback whales. Duqm's Special Economic Zone now promotes it to divers and geology enthusiasts drawn to its unusual profile. It remains best appreciated from a boat, since the rock stands alone in open water.

Straddling the border between Al Buraimi and the UAE's Al Ain, Jebel Al Qatar is a run of mountain slopes nicknamed the Hanging Gardens for the greenery that clings to its cliffs. Visitors come for desert safari drives through the slopes and for camping trips that take in the mountain scenery after sunset. Hiking trails wind through its gorges, making it a favourite half day escape for residents of both border towns. Its position right on the corridor between the two cities makes it an easy add on to any visit to the governorate.

The plantations that ring Salalah turn the city into a green oasis unlike anywhere else in Oman, with coconut, banana and papaya trees planted along the coastal roads. Families from Dhofar walk the shaded paths between the trees and stop at roadside stalls for fresh juice, especially once the khareef season cools the air. The farms cluster thickest near Haffa Beach, just a couple of kilometres from the city centre, where growers sell produce straight from the field. It is one of the simplest and most familiar outings for local families.
